Christian Siriano for Payless

Christian Siriano, the FIERCE winner of the fourth season of Project Runway is giving us access to style for less moolah.  Last December, Siriano announced his collaboration with Payless and upcoming plans to distribute a shoe and handbag line for fall 2009.  The collection features Egyptian inspired footwear and accessories with spikes, chains and cone-shaped heels.  The price range is $25-$45 for the items which could be considered steep for Payless but still affordable compared to other fashion retailers.

Siriano isn’t the first designer to link up with the low-cost shoe store.  Over the last few years, Payless has been debuting collections at New York’s Fashion Week and pairing up with high fashion designers to give everyone a chance to have fly shoes for less.

African Inspired Couture

Fashion designers are starting to look east for inspiration and are using colorful prints and patterns to convey a fashionable message on the runway.  These textured fabrics are not only remniscent of traditional African cloth but are, in many cases, authentic materials straight from the continent.  The designs are contemporary, fashion-forward and fabulous.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Swedish fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB on Wednesday unveiled the name of its next designer collection team-up: British accessory brand Jimmy Choo.

H&M said the famed shoemaker — one of the favorite pump labels of “Sex & the City” character “Carrie” — will launch the collection in 200 H&M stores on Nov. 14, including covetable shoes and bags as well as a women’s clothing line to match them.

Jimmy Choo will also provide a men’s collection of shoes, bags and accessories.

“We adore Jimmy Choo’s shoes and bags,” H&M’s Creative Designer Margareta van den Bosch said in a statement, adding it was the first time the company collaborated with an accessory brand. “I like the way we have worked with clothes to accessorize the shoes and bags rather than the other way around,” she said.

Jimmy Choo founder and President Tamara Mellon vowed that her brand would bring H&M “a sophisticated, fashion forward, accessible and glamorous collection.”

“We are privileged to be among the fashion greats who have been affiliated with H&M so far,” she said.

According to Stockholm-based H&M, Jimmy Choo — which was founded in 1996 — has been worn by Hollywood celebrities such as Cate Blanchett, Halle Berry and Hilary Swank.

H&M has previously collaborated with both pop icons and designers including Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli and Viktor & Rolf.

U Likey or U Hatey?

Everything is making a comeback.  When leggings and stirrup pants made reappearances I should’ve known that more old-school fashion remixes were in the works.  I asked you guys about harem pants and now I’m noticing that shoulder pads have been on the rise.  What do you think about this trend? Is it a fashion dessert or fashion disaster? You decide!
