Do You See A Resemblance?

Here’s how Contact Music is reporting it:

JAMIE FOXX has been tipped to play late Rat Pack crooner FRANK SINATRA, according to reports. Leonardo DiCaprio and Harry Connick Jr. were among the names rumoured to be in contention for the role after it was announced earlier this month (May09) that filmmaker Martin Scorsese will direct a biopic. But now African-American actor Foxx, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in 2004’s Ray, has emerged as the favourite to play Ol’ Blue Eyes. And studio bosses are convinced Foxx has the charisma and talent to tackle the role of Sinatra, who died in 1998. An insider tells Britain’s Daily Star, “Jamie would seem to be born to the role. Magnificent voice, convincing acting ability – like Frank himself – born the wrong side of the tracks, makes it big against all odds, has his brush with authority. The guy’s a gift.”

I’m all for equal opportunities for everyone but isn’t this a bit over the top? I know Jamie Foxx is great with impersonations and he has an awesome voice but he in no way resembles “Ol’ Blue Eyes.”  Is he going to wear light make-up and pop in blue contacts? If he does, won’t that kinda be like a white person wearing Blackface? And that is never cool. This reminds me of  the previews for that new Wayans movie, Dance Flick, I thought it looked pretty funny until the White female character hopped out of a cab painted black because her friend didn’t want to be seen with a girl like her.  I was suprised at that little scene because Damon Wayans was the main character in “Bamboozled” and that was one of the first movies I saw that introduced me to minstrels.  I really can’t stand minstrels in today’s society and that includes people that are acting as well as the people that are natural fools (i.e. Flavor Flav).  If Jamie Foxx gets this part, hopefully it’s done tastefully and doesn’t offend anyone.  I know he’s a great actor and maybe he’s the one who can pull this off.
